Taksim Turkish Kitchen and Bar opened it's doors in August 2015. Owner of Taksim, Samim had previously owned Turkish Cafe Ponsonby and Newmarket and currently owns Turko cafe in the city. Samim has been cooking Turkish cuisine in New Zealand since 1990 and before arriving in New Zealand was cooking at his family owned restaurant in the south of Turkey on the mediterranean coast.

It is considered the heart of Istanbul and is also the location of the Monument of the Republic of Turkey. Taksim is also a favourite location for public events such as parades, New Year celebrations, or other social gatherings.
